Where to buy metal fabricating tools I have found a small niche market. I have been welding up two liter bottle rocket launchers for my fellow science nerds. I would like to purchase a ring roller which bends metal into rings or circles (good for a few more demos). What I would really like to do is bend angle iron into loops. I could make a looping roller coaster demo for my fellow pocket protecting friends. My question is where can I find these tools? Im suspect of Harbor freight and their ilk. I have looked on the net but prefer to see the tool in person
To make circles/loops...you need an english wheel. Get a catalog from www.tptools.com and they will have what you need.
Dave, Angle iron is not easy to bend even with a ring roller. If you can give a good description of what you are trying to make I can tell you the best (easiest) way to fabricate it. Possibly you simply need a ring form (very easy to make). I'm a welder by trade so I have a lot a experience in this area. Brian
Brian below is a link to what I want to make with angle iron. My plan at this point is to tack the angle iron to a 12'' diameter pipe apply heat and bend to shape. The demo involves releasing a golf ball to make it around the loop. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...&hl=en&lr=&rls=RNWE,RNWE:2005-15,RNWE:en&sa=N Below is a link to ring roller. I have seen them used many times at the Amish machine shop near school (kind of cool a drill press - cut off saws and a sort of bridge port all running of a diesel motor and belts) http://www.toolsplus1.com/bandring.htm George I thought English wheels did sheet metal. You learn something every day
Once we have a pic or two of the finished item...we can make the correct suggestions...previous post is correct on bending angle iron/steel.
summit racing I live 5 min. from summit and they just came out with the tools u are looking for.call them up :3gears:
COOOOL I will check it out. I made my own golf ball loop de loop from 1/8 angle iron by clamping it to a 8 ich pipe and muscled it around works great. I'm selling them to other science nerds for $20. I will post a picture of the finished product in a few days.
