Okey... My rust car stands on pallets, not on wheels...engine&tranny beside the car.. I'm planing to sandblast and fix the rust on the body, sandblast the frame and paint it and replace all ould mounts and so on... And I just don't know where I should start.... if I should liftup the body and fix the frame first, or fix the body first (quarterpanels for example)... arr, Just don't know where and how to start... Please, tell me, how did you start your fullrestoration project? :error: ou:  Thanks :TU:
getting started.. It doesnt matter where you start, Just start.. Nomally anything you start with will end up stopping for one thing or another.. (like rebilding a tranny or adding supports) Try to job out some things to talented freinds.. That always helps... But keep working...It will never get done unless you do something with it..If you get a rotisory (or biuild one) this will help emensely because you can work on bothe things at the same time.. Good Luck with your Project!!! Randy :TU:
Sandblast the frame. You may ruin the good parts of the body panels if you attempt to sandblast them.
Arr, I'm so depressed... Just don't know what to do with the biggest problem... the rear fenders... I'm searching and searching for a donate car, and one told me now that it's inpossible to find a partcar with nice fenders without rust...and I should take metal from 4door electra insted... so... whats should i do, A: keep on the search. B: Buy the small sheetmetalparts (why don't they cover the whole "fenderedge"/brink/screenborder/fenderline, arr what do you call it..) C: replace with ordinary straight sheetmetal... ---------------------------------------------------- And about the floor, someone did answer me that impala floor parts where almost the same... should i really try that? or will i get problem with the floormat and so on.. . ---------------------------------------------------- I just don't want to giveup like everyone tell me to do... Depressed times like this, do I go and check Micsauto projects, they can make rustcars nice....that gives me hope... http://www.micsauto.com/69devillerestore.html
please, I just need some guidance so my project just don't stand still all the time... I can't think on my own.. lol... I'm thinking on using sandpaper, to remove paint and putty/filler so I get a clean metal... cut out bad rustzones, and weld on new universal sheet metal... and after that, sandblast the whole inside... Sounds wrong? -I can't find any new sheetmetal patches or rustfree fenders.. so what to do else? *depressed* - Whole project stands still, and everyone tells me how stupid I am - buying this car.... I want to show them, I will make it (I hope).... Just don't know how to start...
Sounds fine!!! Get on it.. Don't get depressed.. When you cut off old parts save them and replicate them by pounding and forming them any way you can.. If you don't have a brake to bend peices, then use what you have.. a vice works well on most pieces..You may be able to go to a local sheet metal place to have them bend The large peices..I don't have a brake either I just do what I can..Get the lines as close as you can to original and use putty to smooth the rest later..You are on the right path!!! Don't listen to anybody else.... You know what you can accomplish..Randy
welding Also when welding, use small spot welds to replace a panel...Use a screwdriver to pry on the area to keep the metal in line..Try to get away from overlapping panels.. Put them in the exact place that you took them out.. Check on the heat of the panel by useing light touches with your hand 3" from the welds. If you cannot touch them, then they are to hot.. Major warping can occur if you weld to much to fast..Take your time.. spot weld in one area no longer then an inch, then go to another..Soon your efforts will pay off..Good Luck Randy
Think of what the first engineers at SAAB felt like..Getting Ideas and having to make them work....Just always think that a man originally put that car together..And a man can fix it!!!!.

Go to a hardware store or somewhere that you can buy some brand new sheets of metal(make sure you get the right "guage" of metal you need), and if you have a welder and a metal cutting tool and a sander then just measure the rusted areas to make sure you can get everything exact, then take your metal cutting tool, cut a piece out of the badly rusted spots, then cut(heck, even an old washer/or dryer w/ some good metal will work LOL) a piece out of the metal, clamp it on, weld it in and sand it smooth. As the saying goes, if you can't find a part, then make it! :TU: Sort of like a customized patch panel, if you will.
And like said above, start anywhere you want to, if you want to build your drivetrain then do it first, or if you want to start on the body then you can do that too, or do different things at different times, like per say, you might rebuild your motor and then come back to doing some body work, etc. Im just doing little at a time on my resto project, so I can fit it in w/ my budget. :TU:
Why don't any rear fender panel have a whole fenderline ? Don't the front part of the fenderline never rust or get damaged??
I just recently realised that there exist 2dr hardtop... ou: Are they easy to find on junkyards? Convertibles are hard to find... without rust.. Or should I save the search-time and take fenders from 4door, and take some sheetmetal from the rear doors, and try to pice it together.. so it covers like a 2door fender.. o No:
