Not to my taste, but how could you hide or even sell this car

Police are asking the public for help in finding a rare 1950 Buick Sedanette hotrod worth $120,000 that was stolen during a break-and-enter at a rural property in Niagara Region.

Niagara Regional police said the theft occurred in the township of West Lincoln between March 16 and April 20. No suspects have been identified.

Det. Chris Carter said the car was appraised at about $120,000 and said “it should stand out” due to it’s bright orange and green flame paint job.

Police said the rare classic hotrod had distinct and identifiable custom work and paint detailing and was being stored in a red trailer that was also stolen from the property.

Anyone with information on this break-and-enter and theft is asked to contact Niagara Regional Police Det. Carter at 905-688-4111 ex. 5422, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Chances are, there already was a waiting buyer overseas, and that car is in a container on its way there. That, or it’s been dissected for the cumulative value of its parts to make another stolen hot rod appear legal.

Understatement of the year nominee. My guess would be insurance fraud. No way to even come close to $120,000 if it sold, but I don't doubt he has that in it. That paint scheme may have it's fans, but over 60k would be alot for that car imho.

It was in a trailer. The trailer would not stand out and is probably far away in someone's barn. I lean toward Gary's theory. It's a cool ride, but not $120.000 cool.

    Fully agree with 68 Wildcat..

My question is who was paid to get it Appraised at 120k ..

    Stinks of fraud..

Better yet bet you 5 Dollars,,, Det Chris Carter is involved or the head of the keystone Cops.

Or maybe the appraisal was 120.000 Mexican pas0s which equals out to about 6500 US

You guys are mean. Maybe not my taste(or yours) but it was the owners pride n joy just like any of our cars are to us. My first thought was its in a cargo container on its way over seas orrrr has been repainted / parted out.

I would think twice about saying this might be insurance fraud. Street rod guys spend a ton of money on their cars and when done correctly pull big bucks when they go to sell them.

They have around 5000 cars show up at the York, PA. car show, and there are venders that sell all kinds of custom systems/components for these cars.
    These guys are serious.

If it was re-painted and shipped somewhere, how many people, if any, would recognize it?

I think It would take a large set of testicals now days to commit insurance fraud. I’d rather lose 60k than spend 3-4 years with bubba in the pokey.

Not mean! I did say it's a cool ride. I just don't believe that it's worth anything like $120 grand.

until the truth be known all theories are on the table. Im sure the first thing that any investigator will check out is the owner.

He’ll be the first suspect. They’re gonna put him thru a fine mesh colander before they hand over a check.

Let us not forget that the original article said "appraised." It did not say "appraised by his insurance company." The devil is in the details. If he had a stated value insurance policy, the insurance company has a lot of wiggle room; if the policy is "agreed value", then the insurance company has to pay. My Model T has a Hagerty agreed value policy and if it is stolen or wrecked they will pay the value on the policy. For the record, I wouldn't sell it for it's insured value - I think that I will up the coverage next renewal if Hagerty will go along. I think they will.
