Where can I get a set of tall gears for a 72 Skylark with a GM 8.50 rear end? I am considering my options for putting an stick shift in the Skylark :3gears: , one possibility is to go with an overdrive transmission like a Tremec TKO, another is to use a cheaper direct drive box (like a Super T-10) and use taller rear gears. I figured out that a wide ratio super T-10 with a set of 2.56 gears would have a final drive of about 3.40 in third (which would be good around town) and allow me to cruise at about 2300rpm @70mph. The only question is finding the gears. Are they available?ray:
I would think you can get whatever gear you want for the 8.5. I put 2.56 ring and pinion into Google and got this among other results. http://www.ceoffroad.com/shop/index.php?action=item&id=372&prevaction=category&previd=1&prevstart=0 The stock rear gear for a 72 Skylark 350 was 2.56. I bet you can get an entire rear with that gear if you post in parts wanted.
Spotted a 2.56 posi in a mid 90's B-body at the yard last week. Should be an Auburn cone style posi with 30 spline axles.
i HAVE THOSE GEARS IF YOU NEED. I have a ton Of 8.5 rears here no problem. 40.00 if you need them. Jim Pm Me.
