sounds like the carb is having problems delivering fuel when the secondaries open.

what kind of shape is your booster valve in? has the carb ever been rebuilt?

Couldn't it be the fuel filter ?

ok, let`s see, i tell you what i find out.

    regards

Do you have the factory 4-bbl. carb on it, or is it an aftermarket ( and if so what kind of carb)? If it is an aftermarket, that is most likely your problem--it will need tuning to that engine.

definitly watch your face this is good advice if you try something like this. experience isn't a good excuse as to why half your face is missing its hair.

mine smoked a lil at WOT right after installation of 2.5 inch duals from single.
Then i adjusted for max vacum and replaced all the rubber hoses around my aircleaner and carb and replaced the grommet around my pcv valve & pcv valve
it stopped smoking. I was fooled for a lil while from the street dust kicked up from exhaust velocity( thinking it was still smoking ). also my buddy told me he hada 71 riv with leaky valve covers and the oil was drippping into the ehaust manifold and coming out the pipe. :Dou: he had to replace the ehaust manifold and the valve cover gaskets

    factory carburator

    hi,

i use the factory carburator.i found two inderpressure "holes" on the manifold and close them with the special screws i had from my old manifold.what for were this underpressure "screws" ( don`t know the right word, perhaps connector), they sit in behind of my carburator directly on the manifold.
since i close them the engine goes much better and the miss swallow problem is very very little now.is there a kind of standard adusting on this carburator - perhaps three rounds both screws screwing out ...?
thanks for any help and please if you use special words explane them, cause we don`t learn all this words in german scools......

and i want to learn them like the nice word "quarter window molding"- wow!

underpressure? Maybe you mean vacuum. There are two vacuum ports behind the carburetor. One is for a power brake booster, the other is for the transmission vacuum modulator. If you don't have power brakes or an automatic transmission, you would plug these holes to prevent a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak would make the engine run lean. It sounds like you are on the right track. To adjust the idle mixture screws, you need a vacuum gauge. 3 turns out will be too much. Usually 1 1/2 -2 turns out is more than enough. You should try for the leanest setting and highest vacuum at idle at the recommended idle speed.

    accelerator pump

    hi,

i believe you all are right with the accelerator pump.

but where to get the pump, or what to do with it and where is it on my

caburator, can someone explain me ?

    thanks, my american friends.

Also check your timing. If the timing is not advanced enough it will cause a hesitation or stumble when you floor it.

Wow - 98 octane? That is some pretty potent juice for your old '65. If you have a quadrajet, the accelerator pump is a plunger that is on the right side, on top of the carb, your throttle linkage connects to a cam that pushes the plunger down, springs inside the housing push the plunger back up. Go to www.carburetion.com
Your doing great with your English :TU:

sure quadrajet ? some pix could help?

    hi,

i am not sure is it a quadrajet looks near to a carter (pix in internet...)

and yes 98 octan in the moment, next gas will be

    shell v-power (100 octan),yes sir! -100 ! :TU:

can someone tell me carburator i have ?

    my engine is a 300-4 , 355 wildcat.

here are some pix, perhaps some knows this carburator !

    thanks

That is the correct factory Carter AFB that came on the engine. What number is stamped in the carburetor base? It will be stamped in the front edge of the base just in front of the passenger side front mounting bolt.

    hi,
p.s. the pix were from my engine not this from web.

brian i will look for the number when i am back from work on wednesday.

have to go to bed now....

is the quadrajet or the carter the better carburator or equal ?

....is their a easy way to tune the carter a little up ?

If it is the right number carburetor, it will run perfect on that engine. I have the exact same engine in my '65 Special and it runs strong with that carb. A Quadrajet is too big for a 300 engine, plus a Quadrajet will not fit on that intake manifold without an adaptor, and none of the other stuff will connect up to it properly without custom making a bunch of stuff. Oh, and the air cleaner won't fit on a quadrajet either.
Did you rebuild the carb yourself. If so, did you use a universal kit that has an assortment of gaskets in it? If so, you may have chosen the wrong gasket somewhere inside that is causing your problem.

    not done by my own...

i bought the engine in the states....in indianapolis.

i don`t do the overhauling by my self - the guy said it`s all done...

now i see.....do you think i have to buy the overhaulkit and do it "again"...?

at the linkage of the acculatorpump, their is choosen the lowest hole, is that

    right?

and first i have to adjust the ignition now - i will tell you is it better !
