When good cams go bad!!!! There is a artical in June 2006 HOT ROD about cam faiures. If you run flat tapet cams and most of us do in these older cars this info is a must have. I tells about the import lifters and the antiwear adatives that are not int the oil.

You can see the full article here: http://www.vortexbuicks-etc.com/lifters.htm . Over in turbo Buick land, we like to use the GM "EOS" (Engine Oil Supplement) as it has the missing zinc and other additives that are slowly disappearing from traditional motor oils.

gmpartsdirect.com has the set of 16 Chevy SB lifters for $67. Guess I'll be needing custom length pushrods now.

EOS no longer contains the added zinc we need. But BG Products has an additive called MOA that does.

I believe the diesel oil Rotella T has received rave reviews here for high zinc content and good lubrication properties for older car use.

    FWIW, found on internet:
"Among the products we found containing zinc dialkyldithiophosphate were Mechanics Brand Engine Tune Up, K Mart Super Oil Treatment, and STP Engine Treatment With XEP2. The only reason we can easily identify the additives with the new zinc compounds is that they are required to carry a Federally mandated warning label indicating they contain a hazardous substance. The zinc phosphate they contain is a known eye irritant, capable of inflicting severe harm if it comes in contact with your eyes. If you insist on using one of these products, please wear protective goggles and exercise extreme caution"
