    Hi
I need some suggestions on tires. I need them to get the car certified. I want to get the original Buick Rallye wheels. So my question is what size would the rallye wheels have to be? 15x7?

The next question is, that I want it to have more of a muscle car look. I wanted big tires in the back (but not that big, I don't want to do modifications). And then a smaller(not too small) tires in the front.

I was thinking these for the back tires. http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/images/products/indy_profile_ss.jpg

    Appreciate suggestions/help.
    Thanks

All '68 Riviera chrome ralley wheels were 15"x6" with a 5x5" bolt pattern. :TU:

    Thanks Rivman!
What about the tires? any size requirements or any recommendations on what route I should go for the tires?

actually, I am having a hard time finding the 15"x6" with a 5x5" bolt pattern. Do you know anywhere that has them?

Another item to be aware of is that the rear over the axle pipe runs outboard of the frame. Even with the stock size tire, it runs very close.

You can put larger wheels and tires on it though. You just have to be careful about backspacing on the wheels

Stay away from the M/T tires. They are not radials. Stick to a modern radial if your not drag racing it. The optional tire for the Riv GS was an H70-15 which translates into a 235/70-15. You can run those front and back. With the same size front and rear you will also be able to rotate them.

Personally, I dont like the "big and littles" on a classy car like the Riv. It doesnt seem to fit the style of the car.

btw...sorry I didnt answer your PM. It slipped through the cracks.

I would stay with original tire sizes as Jason stated. As far as the original chrome ralley wheels, they do come up from time to time on evilBay, and the quality usually ranges from 'driver quality' to junk. You could also place a request in the 'parts wanted' section here, or in other Buick forums. There are no repros available at a reasonable price, and no one rechromes the ralley wheels.
The original '68 wheels have a 2 1/8" centre hole for the cone shaped ribbed centre caps, and there was a centering ring welded to the rear of the hub for proper wheel clearance for disc brake optioned cars, and these same rims were used on all drum brake Rivieras. The optional chrome ralleys from '66 to '70 full size cars will fit your car, and the proper centre caps have a black plastic insert with a silver "R" emblem. :TU:
Do a search for more threads on the chrome wheels, as they have been discussed previously.

    Thanks for the replies

Ya, I may just have all the tires the same size now on all 4. But I still would like the Rally wheels. Even if there are aftermarket ones that fit, I am just curious of the cost and if there are any. I have seen 15x7x4.75 But I am guessing those won't fit. Are there different sizes that would fit, like Jason had said, how big of a wheel can I go?

The ones I have found repro, are 15x7-9 with a bolt pattern 5X4 3/4 (which won't fit the Riviera, they say on their website) -Coker Tire
And then from Wheel Vintiques, they have Rim Size: 15 x 6 Bolt Circle: 5-4 3/4 Rear Spacing: 3 1/2

    Hi Mike,
I sold a good set of 4 Riviera Rally wheels last fall for $200.00.
They do come up locally, just have to keep your eyes open:grin: You might just put new tires on your existing rims until a resonable set comes up for sale. Cost to change an existing tire from one rim to another is $10 to $15 per tire depending who you get.

    Ya,
You were the one that I wanted to buy them from!! lol.
You sent me pictures a while ago for them and they looked really good!

I may just do that then. Get the tires and keep them on the old rims for now and until I find and am ready for the rally wheels. My old rims have hubcaps so, it still looks good. I just need to know which size I can go for the rallys though.

The wheel studs on the Riviera are on a 5" circle, not 4 3/4!. Dont make the mistake of buying a set of those. Contact Yardley on the board here or check out his site. He has a link in his signature. He has aftermarket wheels on his car. You may be able to glean some sizing information from him.

Im a big fan of the super deluxe/ turbine style wheel covers. One of the best looking as far as hubcaps go.

Whatever you decide on Mike, they must be a 5x5" bolt pattern - the 5x 4 3/4" will not fit the full size 'E' body car ! :TU:

Ya, I can give him an email later.
These are pretty much the same hubcaps that I currently have on it.

5x5" bolt pattern- Thanks, I'll remember that.

Will these wheels fit? I found rims I want but I dont know if they will fit. They are

    15x 7 5 x127 with a -6 offset???

    with 235/70/15 tires??

Please let me know before I make the purchase online. Because in Canada, they don't carry the rims I am looking at.

Also what size lugnuts do I need to get??

    Mike,

Here's a slightly muscular stance on factory rims. Not sure what size the tires are and it looks like it might have been lowered a bit, too. Can anyone make a guess?

I know this post was from a long time ago but this is exactly the look that I'm looking for. Any guesses on rim/tire size? 1" or 2" drop? Thanks for your help!!!

Fetti, I've got 15X8 with 245/60/15's in the front and 15x10 with 295/50/15's in the back and Im still under the fender wells (barely in back) Wheels have a 4.5" back space. Also put a 2" drop in front which makes the car level .

    Hi, Rivman...:)

I'm writing a thriller novel which features the 1970 Buick Wildcat and I need to know the INCH diameter size of the tires for that car. I know they're huge suckers :shock:as my parents owned this Make/Model when I was a kiddie. I realize car buffs probably don't go by this kind of sizing description but could you give me a guesstimate on the diameter? Thanks muchly, MsBurb:)
