Hey guys, I am trying to get a set of American Racing Torq-Thrust D's for my 66 Riv. Anyone know the offset? Thanks -Andrew
The only two with 5x5 bolt circle listed in the Summit site have 3.750" back spacing. http://www.summitracing.com/search/...ing-Torq-Thrust-D-Wheels/?autoview=SKU&page=2
The OE wheels were a tad under 3 1/2"-something like 3 3/8". I think the '71 and newer were about another 3/4" and any wheel weights don't clear the backing plates when used on earlier cars (many cars had wheel covers OE and the Formula 5 road wheels were added later) Keep in mind that it will probably take a 16-17" aftermarket wheel to clear the big Buick drums-good luck
My OE wheels are 3 1/4" or 3 3/8" BS, I can't recall which. 16in wheels might clear the massive drums, I know for a fact 17in wheels do.
Are you sure that 15's won't fit? There is a set of aftermarket ICW 15's on my 66 right now. It still has the big aluminum drums. I think my brother said something about it having "adapters" on it?
The American Racing rims have too much backspacing. They wont sit on the hub becuase the drums are so big. Technically you could probably run a spacer, but that's usually avoided do to safety concerns.
The problem is the thickness of the inside rim area on the 15" aluminum wheels. The I.D. of the aluminum rim is smaller than the stock steel wheels, whick interferes with the outer edge of the fins on the drums. You can grind down the aluminum fins a little to clear the wheels without too much trouble, but grinding the fins off of the cast iron rear drums is much more difficult. Unless you just can't live without 15" wheels, I would look at 17" wheels for your car. That way the finned drums will easily clear. Later, Randy
