    Good Afternoon All,

Per subject title: WHat are the wheel and tire size limits (if you will ) for a 69 Skylark? Specifically, I need to know what the widest rim and tallest tire limits are for a 68-69 Skylark. I am upgrading to Stage -2 heads and as it was, I had traction problems. I am currently running an 15x8 rim, no off set ( old ET II's).. 29" tall and 9" wide tire +/- and 3:73's .... thanks in advance and have a good Sunday gents.

    Best Regards,

I know the 68-69 cars need more back spacing than the 70-72 cars to run the wider tires. An 8" wheel needs no less than 5" back spacing. 5" back spacing would be 1" positive offset. Your 8" rim, if it has no offset would have 4" of back spacing. With 5" of back spacing on an 8" rim, I've seen P275/50R-15's and P275/60R-15 with no problem.

BTW, I find it far less confusing, and more useful, to reference back spacing, not offset. Back spacing is much easier to understand and measure than offset IMHO.

275/60-15 mt drag radials on a 15x8 wheel with 5.5 back spacing. Softest springs you can find for good weight transfer. No-hop bars. Trust me- it will hook!:TU: Dave

So do you think there is any way in a million years to run a 9.5 on the back of a 1968/9?
