I have just sandblasted the wheel off my 55 Century Convertible and would like to know if anyone knows what color red was used by Buick. None of my research has turned up any information on steel wheels. I assume the inside of the wheel can be primed and painted with a gloss black enamel. Any input is much appreciated.

If red was used on 55 wheels the color is Cherokee Red. The inside of rim of the original 6" wheels used on 50-60-70 series was red primer...the 5.5" wheels used on 40 series was gray primer.

Willie, if I understand correctly the red you can see on the wheel cover side is Cherokee Red, the other side or inside of the rim is red primer. My wheels must have been repainted because the inside appears to be black. Was the entire wheel surface either primed or painted? Do you have any pictures of a finished wheel? Thanks for your help.

Thanks Willie. Is the other side of the wheel just in red primer? If so, is it the same red, close or totally a different color? Should I also prime the part of the wheel covered by the tire?

Just the common red/brown primer color on the back side. The whole wheel was probably primed and color shot on the outside with only overspray on the tire area. Duplicate the primer color in a durable paint or cover with clear.

Thanks for your quick response Willie. I also need to find a nice set of wire wheels.
