I have a grinding/vibrating/rubbing noise coming from my passanger front wheel. The car has been pretty much been sitting up for 3 or 4 yrs. The car brakes fine though. There isn't any knocking or ticking when I turn the wheel...just a gawd awful annoying to the bones noise while I'm rolling. Any ideas as to what may be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.

It's either worn to the metal brakes or a front wheel bearing. Dis assemble it and see.

I would guess the adjuster link fell off and is now grinding against the drum. I had this happen to me yesterday. Take your drum off and see.

However, if the noise is worse when braking it is probably worn out shoes.

I have the drum off now and everything is fine with the brakes. It doesnt make any additional noise when braking. When I spin the hub assembly I hear the noise. So I'm guessing my bearings are shot. About to see if I can find some instructions and a diagram on google. Man I hope this is gonna be an easy fix.

Well how do the bearings look? You removed the outer one when the drum was removed and the inner bearing is removed by prying the rubber seal out and the bearing should come right out.

Well i went o autozone and bought the new inner bearing and now I'm riding nice and quiet.:bglasses: However, now it pulles to the left when I brake:rolleyes: I'll pull it apart again tomorrow and put more grease in there. I knew something wasn't right when it didn't spin very good...atleast I know what I'm looking at now. Gotta love DYI...I feel a real sense of accomplishment now. $20 spent. I wonder how much theyda robbed me for at Midas??!!

Properly adjusted drum brakes do not allow the tire to "turn with the breeze". They are supposed to rub some. That's what gives you a nice high pedal.

How to fix drum brakes pulling to one side, I do not know. Unless something is obviously wrong, (shoe liner missing chunks, ect.)

As long as you packed the bearing well with plenty of grease, it should be fine.

Well it was the hub assembly that wasnt spinning all that well after I bolted it back down... before I put the drum back on. I wasn't having that issue before I tore it apart. Could I have put too much grease in there?? Either way I'll see tomorrow. Thanks for all the help today...time for me to get some shut eye!

You didn't torque the spindle nut down did you? It's only supposed to keep the hub from moving in and out, but it remains loose and the cotter pin keeps it from turning.
