I had my 65 riv towed to a mechanic shop to have brakes put on. I would have attempted the job myself but could not get the rear drums off so I ordered a new spring kit, wheel cylinders, and brakes from Cars.inc and delivered them to the shop with the car. When completed I had the car towed back home and the driver side wheel would not move. The driver had to tilt the lift several times to "slide" the car off the bed. I wasn't at the shop for pickup and found out about this issue when the driver arrived with the car. When I went to the shop to ask what the issue was he said he didn't know but it wasn't the brakes. He said they would check it out but Im not towing the car back up there so I need any help available.

I know nothing about brakes and do not know where to start. The car rolled freely when I brought it home on a trailer, and even moved under its own power before the trip to the mechanic shop. While on jack stands it would creep forward and reverse. BUT... now that I think about it i think it did slowly come to a stop and would not move even with a little tap of the pedal. I thought this would be fixed with a cylinder and brake change but i was obviously wrong.

Could it be the rear locking up? Please help

    Thanks

If on the front replace brake hoses as old ones collaspe and cause promblems if on rear make make sure master cly is good.If brakes were locked when it left shop they should not let car leave on tow truck anyhow.

is it all wheels or pairs, or certain ones?

if its rear, it sounds like the adjusters may have gotten swapped from side to side.

I had a brake job done on my Electra ('64) & they did two things wrong -- one, they put the rear adjusters in backwards (guess in the early years this could be done) & two, the ASsE Mechanic used a pair of vice grips on the flexible hose that goes between the hard line on the body to the hard line on the rear axle which he forgot to remove!!

let me tell ya, a big @$$ '64 225 is hard to stop with only the front drums

Wait a minute. You had a shop do brakes on your car, and they returned the car worse off than when it went in? You paid them to do this? I wouldn't let them put air in my tires.

something doesn't sound right here. were you keeping in touch with the shop when they were working on your car? i can't imagine any reputable shop returning a car with the wheels locked. did they call you to tell you about this? before you paid your bill did you discuss the work performed on your car with the owner or shop foreman?
