What's your name? We're friendly around here.

I've seen this written many times to a new member who didn't put their name into a signature.

    Two aspects...

    1. What's your name: Yes it's nice to know. But is it worth pestering someone after their first post? Sometimes I wonder. Be it John, Tom, Mike, Paul, or whatever. No biggie.

    2. We're friendly: Well, that's just a matter of opinion isn't it. I think I'm friendly. My mother always liked me. But I suppose if you had a 5.0 mustang telling me I'm driving an old man's car you might not think so.

My point is, let the newbies alone about the name thing until at least a dozen posts or so. In some strange way it's like asking for a kiss on the first date.

Am I totally nuts or what?

Hi Jim, it was too much fun to meet you Mass guys. I couldn't sleep.

I stand by my position that you gave the cops way too much BS information making up the story about the Mustang guy doing the burn outs in the adjacent car park. In my book it's best just to play dumb. That way there's no way to challenge the story. My story would have been that we just came outside about ten minutes before and don't know what they're talking about....

And as I offered before, you're welcome to come to China for a visit with any of your other Buick buddies. Too much bumper to bumper traffic in Beijing to race, but there are other things to do too.

Catherine, you too. Anyone else for that matter. I'll start worrying about visitor capacity when the first person gets the gumption to come over. Oh wait, Loyd Bonecutter was here once from Chicago GSCA about three years ago. We still talk about it.

Anyways, the point of this thread is whether we need to know names right away or not. Fact is, when we met each other in person I was mostly relating to people by their screen names anyway. Yardley, Smartin, GSJohnny, etc.

I think the name thing went away sort of. I know people more by their screen name or avatar image. Allot fo time I find my self searching for who Mike is, when someone replys to a person by their real name. I gotta figure out who they are talking too.

You may get more visitor if you list the fun things to do in China.
What kind of things are legal in China that are not here???
    When in Rome..............

Id dig a Buick meet in Amsterdam. Id be on red eyed dude. Course I wouldn't do everything thats legal in Sweden. I love my dog but not that much.

    Kiss on the first date?

    Yeah right.

    When I was 12.

Just busting you Mike. I don't see anything wrong with a friendly nudge for newbies to include a name.

I don't see anything wrong with suggesting it, whether it's their first or 20th post. I haven't seen anyone being obnoxious about it. We encourage a first name in signatures, but it isn't required. Mike, does it bother you to read those suggestions? I haven't seen a new member react badly to such a suggestion yet. There aren't many automotive boards where members post their names, and I think that's another aspect here that sets us apart from other boards. jmho :)
