I'm curious about others mileage with their small blocks. I had a Buick 300 ci with a 262 duration cam in a '65 Special, 3.23 gear, Edelbrock carb. it got 20 mpg on the highway doing about 70-75mph. Also, had a '73 GS 350, stock engine, Thermoquad carb off a 360 Mopar, advance curve kit, 2.73 gear, 4100 lbs, got around 18-19 mpg overall, 22-23 highway, I thought that was pretty good. I now have a built 300 sitting in a 1985 Regal, three angle valve job, ported heads, zero deck height, 262/268 duration cam, heat riser blocked, oiling system modifications, HEI, Chevy 305 .020 over file-fit moly rings, high-volume oil pump, deburred block and internals, etc. Behind this is a switch/pitch ST400 Transmission and for now a 3.08 gear. Will try to post mileage after it's finished.
Damn dude thats great mileage My 71 350 has gotten a best of MAYBE 15 on the highway with 3.42 gears, 'course I know it doesnt get the mileage my 2000 Monte Carlo does, but its a much cooler car, Been thinking of putting in a 2004R tranny in it. Mark
Well I can get 17 to 22 MPG with a Buick 350 with a cam in cars. Heck I get 15 MPG in my 71 Jeep Wagoneer (no overdrive). So you should be getting better than that given that the Wagoneer is like flying a brick thru the air. Jason
'72 Skylark with a 455...I got 21.7 MPG! Back in the mid 80's when the limit was 55MPH, I locked in at 60 MPH and drove from Charlotte, NC to Alexandria,VA. It took two tanks...first was 19.9 MPG, second was 21.7 MPG. I never came close to those milage totals again with that car. The starts must've been aligned...
Back in the '70's when my '68 GS350 was "new" it would get 20 mpg highway all day. Now that I've improved things, I just registered 12.01 mpg......life's too short to worry about gas mileage anyway!! I'd be curious what a 200R4 trans might do, I've read about some impressive gains in both mpg and performance.
