Setup is from my '72 Skylark Buick 350. Replace iron intake with this alum and had to install the thermo coil TA Performance included and my old rod was too long so had to shorten to fit. Problem is the choke will not kick on (close) when I depress the pedal all the way. There is no heat well for this coil like on the old manifold, it sits flush on the intake. My shop manual said to pull the rod up until it fit into the "gage" slot which was turned counterclockwise until butterfly was fully open. Problem is choke will not close at all on cold start. From the picture or anyone who's had this problem - am I missing a rod or linkage somewhere? I took this carb off the old manifold and set it right on the new one. Possible some of the linkages aren't hooked up right? Man, this is frustrating babying the throttle to get it to warm. Could use any ideas.
That is a Chevy style choke set-up. Looks like the rod is too long. Appears to be bottoming out. With the engine cold, hit the gas and use your finger as the choke to close the air valve. Now, you will have an idea of the rod length you need.
I had forgotten about that. I had the same problem. I didn't drive mine in the cold so it wasn't a big deal for me not to have a choke.
Same here, I bought the parts from the Chevy dealer for the choke, as T/A said to do, but couldnt get it to work, so I just scrapped the idea and dont use a choke, dont really need it unless you start then drive the car in way colder climates. Where do you live? If the choke isnt opening all the way, the your secondaries on your Q-Jet arent even opening, so your running on a 2 barrel carb all the time. Mark
