    Happy 4th all....

I have the 350 out of my 70 Skylark. There is a small bolt screwed into the block near the starter. I didn't know what is what for so I removed it to investigate. It puked coolant. What is the purpose of this, what appears to be, an extra hole in the block? Would it be a good place for a coolant gauge sending unit?

Sounds like you removed a block drain plug, if so then no that wouldn't be a good spot for a sending unit because that wouldn't be the hottest point to take an accurate reading from. Put it back in and treat it like a sore dick and don't eff with it. :eek2:

Some engines had a coolant drain plug. Doubt it's big enough for a sender but you can try. I would still keep a sender at the manifold as it will measure both sides as they mix and when the thermostat opens. That one by starter will mostly just read one side

Yep, drain plug for THAT SIDE of the block. Early 350's had that small pipe plug, later ones don't.

Thanks Guys. Agreed. I put a dab of RTV on it and tightened it back up.
