Hi, Looks after market, tucked behind the drivers side head lights of a 70 Electra. Has a power wire, ground wire and switch wire going to it. No wires coming out of it. Has a 6 volt vibrator in it and one vacuum tube, (similar to old 6 volt chev radios), single push button switch mounted under the dash. Thanks Bruce
It could be an alarm, but, where do the wires go? Old AM radios were single channel, and there was only one option, a "Vibra-Sonic" unit that changed the sound into an echo. Those were usually mounted in a trunk, and wires went from the radio to the speaker(s). I haven't seen one in at least 30 years. Might not be one of these at all. Regards, Milton
You got me, It's wired to a momentary contact pushbutton. So it would only activate while power is applied or pushing the button would set a timer. Looks too old school for a timer. Bruce
wow,old school is for sure. inverter,headlight dimmer,alarm is my guess,or two.got a plug in attachment?if so,its an inverter.im guessing here btw:laugh:
its from another planetary system.....UFO's planted it in the car the blue beam .... what the heck is that ??
Hi. thanks for the reply's it's got me confused , an inverter for what , there's nothing plugged into it. There's a large heat sink, It least that's what I think it is comming off the top of it. Bruce
That's what we think. but there's only wires going into it none coming out. Maybe it's a hood deicer, uzzled: Too bad it's all corroded and the parts inside are cracked or I'd just put power to it and see what it does.
With a vac tube, capacitor and transformer there, my first guess is that it's some type of amplifier/transmitter. o No: Devon
What is the rest of the car, maybe that will give some clues. Maybe some sort of parade car, funeral car, foundation for a float
That's what I'm starting to think. It may have had accessory lighting of some kind and this was part of the system.
Not a bad idea. That reminds me, my grandfather was a fire chief in the 50's60's and early 70's. His personal cars were decked out like a primitive command center (high tech back then). Maybe something like that.
Boy that thing is funky. Whatever you do, don't tuck it into your carry on luggage at the airport! :error: I say put it on eBay with a colorful description. People will buy anything.
