I finally got my car running by putting a new 455 in it that had came out of a 75 buick electra. It's been awile since i've had the internet. I have this wiring problem that is real strange in my 70 riv. when I speed up the generator light glows brighter and it drains my battery. but at idle it recharges it. The motor in my car has hei,and a internaly regulated altenator . I switched out to the original external 60 amp altenator (which is brand new) and I still dont know why this is happening. I used a mitchel wiring diagram and everything seems fine. can anybody give me some input as to why this is happening?

With the engine not running, do you have 12 volts at the output terminal of the alternator? If not you may have a bad fusable link or connection that is poor.
