Hi! Ihave som digits hand stamped on the front end driver side on the engine block just under the head They are upside down I don't think it's the block id... Thanks
Looks to me like they were added by a machine shop to keep track of the engine in thier inventory or tracking in case the customer had an issue.
10.185" on the early engines up to 72 I think and 73-80 ended up about 40-50 thou taller. Now to see if the deck height is stock look for the two digit letter code between number one and three cylinders on the block at the little shelf there.... You will need to clean it up well to see it... If there is no code there then it was likely milled off and the deck is lower than stock.
No digits! And the compression test I did was on a cold motor in between 155-165 psi on all cylinders. Hows that?
Pretty ordinary assuming that you're not at high altitude and your gauge is accurate. As altitude increases, compression pressure goes down. Typical compression is right in that range. I hate seeing it under 150, but a cylinder will run all the way down to 80 psi although the engine gets pretty lazy. Anything over 170--180 and the engine may become fussy about detonation/gasoline octane. Some guys with a spot-on tune and efficient combustion chambers get away with 200 psi. ---------- Post added at 01:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 PM ---------- I didn't know Buick played games with deck height like Ford did. Good to know.
