    Hi,

Thought it might be fun to list out some of the 'odd-ball' factory optioned cars you've seen/owned.

I used to own a '70 Skylark GS 350, triple green, split bench with a 4 speed, maual steering, manual drum brakes, 2.56 posi, A/C, and cruise control.:Do No:

I thought that one was really strange, steered like a tank, it was also the rustiest GS i've ever seen (bought it in Atlantic City, must have been a flood car).

Well....my '72 Stage 1 is a tilt column shift car and has bucket seats. The original owner wasn't real fond of the floor shift/console. He liked the idea of having all that space open.

    Odd combo GS

My 69 GS 400 convertible has the bench seat, and AC, and steel wheels, crank windows, and manual brakes... :Dou:

Maybe not odd ball but certainly less than I expected to find in a GS.

Oh, by the way, it was purchased new in the Bronx, NY. That in itself may have been odd.. :Do No:

    John,
That sounds alot like my convertible. '70 GS 455 conv. 3speed manual on floor, bench seat, no power steering, no power brakes and no a/c. Who ever ordered it did opt for the am/fm stereo with 8 track and rear speakers. I always thought the convertibles would be loaded up with options, not this one.

How about a '71 GSX with vinyl top, body side moldings, upper peak moldings, trunk lip molding and door edge guards? All those were NOT recommended with the GSX package.

Also, there's another Limemist X here in CT with a non-sport driver's side mirror and no passenger mirror (was part of the resto-clinic at Salem).

My 70 Didn't have many options...GS 455 floor mounted 3spd, bench seat, standard interior, manual drum brakes, manual windows and door locks. It does have power steering and rally gauges/tach etc.... No A/C and an am radio

    2 variations:
My 69 Stage1. 4spd., A/C, NO P/S or B. Bought from Mark Bedar's Dad, and sold to Gary LaGree.
    2) 72 GS 350 Convert here in Houston Area, P/S&B, A/C, 3 on the Tree.

I don't know if its rare or not but seems odd to me. My 67' is a bucket seat column shifted 400" car. Power steering, brakes, no A/C, crank windows, remote mirror.

Just seemed odd to me that in the hotrod year of 67' it would end up a column shifted GS 400".

  11. GS69350

    GS69350 Buick NUT

My old 69 GS 350 had a wierd layout:
GS 350 (not a california) Verde Green w/ black vinyl top, buckskin interior
    Manual Steering
    Manual drum brakes
    NON A/C
(Only thing with a belt was the alternator)
Rallye Ride package (fact. rear swaybar)
    3.23 gears non-posi
    14" rallye's
    Inside:
Bucket seats - Reclining Passenger seat !!!
    Floor shift w/ console
    Tilt column
    Power Door Locks (vaccum actuated)
    Rear Window Defroster
    Clock / AM radio

If that wasn't a special ordered car, I don't know what is...
Who would order a nice interior and then leave all the luxury stuff off the engine???

The car also came from Peacock Buick in Falls Church, VA

One of my 72 Converts is Burnished Copper, black top, white interior. Strange combo?

Rallye ride, P/W, power bench seat, tilt, cruise, sport wheel, posi, shoulder belts, AM radio?? and deluxe wheel covers??

Why would you get all that stuff and not the AM/FM?? or the chrome wheels?

2 for the wierdest optioned list:

1969 GS 400 coupe: Red, black vinyl top. Bench seat, AC, Power windows, rallye steering wheel, manual steering, manual drum brakes no radio.

1970 GS 350. PS, PB, power windows, AC, AM/FM, gold with black vinyl top, chrome wheels, posi, 3 speed column shift. (??!!)

My brother's 69 GS 400 coupe has every available option including buckets but NO console. Sounds like quite a few were made like that...

    and

    Not a GS, but...

my 1970 Sportwagon had all the decor items, posi, rocker moldings, chrome wheels, rallye steering wheel, 315 hp GS motor, trailer package, heavy suspension, air shocks, heavy duty cooling, AM/FM and manual steering and manual drum brakes. What was it like to tow a trailer and try to stop with those tiny, manual drum brakes? Yikes! I had to add disc brakes and power steering within a week of owning it because it was flat out dangerous.

I had a 71 GSX 455 with air cond but manual steering and 4 speed. Needed the AC to keep me cool wrestling the steering and shifting those gears.
    Also, no POSI!
Someday, I hope to be reunited with the car......

    Harry,

According to the 1970 new car order form below (Option S6), Buick didn't combine the 4-speed transmission with the cruise control option.

Do you have any documentation that proves the combination?

    Marco,

Unfortunately the car became a front clip donor for a 70 455 car about 8 years ago. The body is probably long gone now I would guess, as I said it was rusty, even the body supports were rotting away. I wish I had know that it may have been 'special'. I can tell you that it was a factory 4 speed car, and that the cruise control appeared to be a factory installation. Next time I visit my family in South Jersey I'll stop by the house where the people who bought it for parts lived and see if they may know where what's left of it went. One other interesting fact is that the 350 that came out of the car got a new cam and was installed into, get this, a 72 Chevy Nova. The guy was telling me when he raced it and won, I should see the look of peoples faces when he opens the hood and a Buick engine is in the bay. :Brow:
