I have a 350 trans in my 68 skylark. Just had it rebuilt by a local guy a few months ago. I drove it maybe 3 times over 3 months. the 4th time I tried taking her out for a spin I put it in reverse and nothing happend. I put in drive, same thing. After a few minutes of letting it warm up I tried backing it up again...I felt it move a little and gave it gas. engine revved but the car moved very little. finally it seemed to get in gear and i backed it down my drive way. At the end of the driveway i put in drive but it didn't go, I gave it some gas and it started to move and then finally jumped in to gear.

I have heard that it is possibly my torque converter. any ideas what it could be??

    Thanks.

Low fluid? Just trying to cover the basics first...

I put a transmission in my car from a scrap yard - it took about a week to get the fluid level to stabilize. I'd fill it up, drive it, it would stop working, check level, fill it again, drive it, and so on. Eventually the fluid stopped 'disappearing' and it's been fine ever since.
