A friend who's got a cherry '70 Electra ragtop sent me pics on this car. There seems to be a mystery, if not an enigma, with it.

    Wow, looks pretty legit....
But, I agree, if it's legit it's a factory conversion, not a dealer one.

I would tell your friend NEVER to let go of that build sheet. Looks like, to me anyway, a legit Special Order (notice the "S.O. #235) vehicle. These things were possible back in the day...someone wanted a special color or trim. All they really had to do with this car was attach the proper seat brackets (which they had already for hardtops), console brackets (which they had for hardtops) steering column (which they had for hardtops), install those seats, etc, etc to make a bucket seat convertible. Also notice the line for the console in the 3rd column. Yes, looks like typed after the sheet was produced, but matches the rest of the "extra" typing. Also, many of the codes in the boxes are "X" out and special notes are attached. The parts were there in the plant to produce this combination without much trouble. I say it's the real deal and probably one of very few of that combo, if even more than one.

I agree that this could've been special ordered from the factory. I purchased my '68 Wildcat convertible directly from the original owner, who told me that he was able to tweek the paperwork to special order what he wanted. He was working at a Buick dealership in '68. My car has white interior, which would've automatically been paired with black dash, carpet and seatbelts. My car came from the factory with blue dash and carpet-(but for some reason the seat belts are black). I have never seen another one that came from the factory like this. Could be one of a kind-or at least extremely rare. :TU: David
