i am taking out my 231 v6 tomorrow to put in my 350 sbb now everything is disconnected but i want to know whats the best way to do this, should i disconnect the trans or can i take it out trans and all? because everything is out except for the trans bolts.
Either way works. I find it easier to leave the trans in. Just make sure you support it so when the engine seperates, it doesn't fall down.
But I Am Getting Rid Of The Trans Also I Have Another Trans So Should I Just Support The Trans With The Jack Ans Just Go From There?
The trick here is having one of those load levelers so you can easilly angle the motor and trans out togther (otherwise the motor will hit the front of the engine compartment before the trans is clear of the firewall) What I usually did before I got a leveler is remove the motor seperately and then leave the trans supported on a rolling wooden trans holder I make and slide it out. The trans isn't too heavy but it is a hassle this way, I'd just get a leveler.
Agreed. If pulling the trans, get a leveler. An extra yoke shoved in the trans helps not make a mess too.
Good idea on the extra yoke in the trans to keep the fluid in when on the angle coming out. If you don't have an extra yoke handly then drop the pan and drain the oil before you pull the motor. If you don't care about the trans then you can easilly chain it to two floor jacks and roll the jacks and lower it out of the car after the motor is removed. I wouldn't do this if the trans wasn't going for junk though.
OK MGUYS I GOT IT ALL I DID WAS HOIST IT OUT WITH ONE OF THE FOLDING CHERRY PICKERS HAD IT UP TO A 1/2 TON JACKED UP THE TRANS HAD A 1 FOOT 4x4 CHUNK OF WOOD TO SUPPERT THE TRANNY PLUGGED UP THE REAR AND IT WAS A PIECE OF CAKE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A COUPLE OF STUFF STILL CONNECTED OTHER THAT THAT I GOT IT WITHOUT A LEVELER.DID NOT HIT FIRE WALL OR ANYTHING AND I STILL HAVE THE FRONT END CONNECTED.
