Hi, I'm gathering up the parts I'm going to need for my Regal. Car will have electric fans on radiator, electric water pump (I hope), electric fuel pump, and has a MSD 6 box. I was going to get a Odyssey battery PC925. Summit Racing has an 80 amp alternator on sale for $59.00. And they are even powder coated in red/black/blue. Will this alternator be enough to keep everything powered up? Thanks. http://store.summitracing.com/defau...eywordSearch&DDS=1&N=115&target=egnsearch.asp
yeah, they look nifty.if you are actually planning on the alternator lasting any length of time, stay away from any kind of coating,powder-chrome-paint.it acts like an insulator, and keeps the alternator from cooling properly.on a low amp unit you can get away with it,not 80amps with all the accessories you want to run.it is a 10si,not built to disperse the heat very well.my alternators are cs130 modified for the heat/hi amp.compare mine to the powermaster pwm-17864 at $329.95  if you really want the powdercoating and hi amp, stay away from the 10 or 12 si.they wont last very long i am actually trying to buy a powdercoating system, and will offer them in the future.(cs-130 style)
Thanks for the info. I don't know much about alternators, that's why I'm asking here. Didn't think about the powder coating retaining heat. Just saw that they were on clearance at Summit. Time to keep lookng.
I can buy Delco cs alternators at the yard for $25. There are a few tricks to make them work in non compute controlled cars (need to wire in a 75 ohm resistor.) Can think of a lot of things to spend the extra $300 for. Also a used Delco is better (imo) than a rebuilt. I will look up the wiring directions for the conversion this weekend if you want to know.
Interesting. I'm not one to put colorful things under the hood, but then again, I do really like purple.
