I've been taking the car out on small "granny drives" on the back roads to help break the new gears in and have noticed 2 things. 1 being that im pretty sure the current trans has a shift kit. 2 being a small whining sound. I'm more concerned about the whining sound, but i also noticed that in park if i rev the engine a little i can here the same sound coming and going with the rpm. Which leads me to believe that its not my gears going bad but something else that im not use to hearing. Any input? Also these small drives don't even last 30 min so i don't think the gear oil has over heated.
Well whines can come from trannys, u-joints, rear diff gears, tires...etc. What speeds? Does it change on accel or decel etc.? Jim
Well I would not say it's loud. But I can't hear it when I decelerate. As for speed your guess is as good as mine. I haven't touched the speedo gears yet and it says that I'm going 55 when I know I'm not. But like I said when it's parked and I rev the engine a little I can hear it then to, but it "fallows" behind the engine rpm. You know what I mean?
Transmission front pumps can whine. If it does it in Neutral/Park, it's definitely not your rear gears.
