Don't know what took me so long, o No: but I just found this V8 Buick site. I lusted after a 1965 Riviera for years and finally took the plunge awhile ago. I got a project car for a mere $800 that has alot going for it. More options than I have seen on a Riv in a long time! Well it had been sitting for years, under a carport, and I towed it home. Found out the hard way why the car came to rest - I fired up the original engine and all holy he11 broke loose!! I found out after a teardown that the hailhead had eaten a piston - imagine that!! Well, I got real lucku and found a 1965 Electra in a local wrecking yard, and got the bargain of the year - $450 for the 425 sitting in the back of my truck! I got the engine installed and all the other useful items like fuel pumps, water pumps, radiators, carburetors, etc either rebuilt or replaced. Now I have a running Riv!!!! Lot's yet to do, but another one has been saved from extinction. Looking forward to hangin' out with the "high-torque crowd" First round is on me!! :beer I'm havin' a Mac & Jack amber ale....
Rivs are cool Welcome Dan, I'm a newbie here too.. Get a digital camera and take pics as you are going along. They are handy to have and sometimes you can help someone out here on the board. There are times when someone else has had their car apart for so long they can't remember how something goes. Its a good feeling to help out with a picture or two. Hey, have you been to that All American Classics salvage yard in Vancouver? The north Portland Vancouver, not the B.C. I lived there for years and didn't know it was in my backyard. ou: Have fun.
Welcome to V8buick.com! It's a great place...unfortunately there's some turmoil on the BPG side, but that will blow over.
Hey man, I'm fairly new myself. I got a 65 Riviera Gran Sport about a month ago and I got it running, luckly with the original engine. It's got the 425 in it. It's nice to see another Riviera guy on the board. Keith
Yup-65 rivs are awesome-Someday?! Welcome from another new guy! Robin Cook 65 GranSport 70GS 66 MGBGT
Thanks for the warm welcome, Torquemeisters! I am SICK!!!! uzzled: Somehow, I was cruising up this street in a residential area in Seattle and - what did my eyes behold - it was the tail end of a late 1960s FS Buick. Down the alley and to the left... I quickly did a U-turn and headed down said alley and - can you imagine this - there sits a 1969 Buick Wildcat 2dr HT in Black on Black - sitting since who knows when.... Body is very straight, interior looks pretty darn good... I am going to have to see if I can talk this Buick into my driveway!! I can't stand to see this poor car sit out in the rain year after year. I wonder if it runs???? Should have a nice 430 4V under the hood. I'll let ya know what develops...... projectman: I'll get around to posting some pics of the Riv, soon, I hope. Sure is great to have my Riv back on the road again... gs4u2c: Yeah, I was readin' last night about all the hassles with the BPG. I've seen that kind of stuff before, It wil all shake out, I'm sure. It's great that this V8 board is available for folks to get together and talk torque. Thanks to the powers that be. Bluzman: a 65 GS Rivvy!? WoW, did you score. Tell us more! How's it equipped, what color, etc.. Got Pics? Where in the world do you live?? awake13: Hey, I'll have to make you an avatar with your color! Robin Cook: Your siggy says you have a 65 GS - They are much better to look at from behind the wheel, eh!! How's yours look - whatcha got on it?? Inquiring minds... Thanks again for all the good words, hope you all enjoyed your refreshments.... :beer
Welcome to the board where torque in king, Dan. Shouldn't have any problem finding either Riv or nailhead lovers here. Good choice of beer too. :beer
eng Dan, if You still have that old block check the oil passage that runs down thru the center underneath the cam/ lifter valley . If it is intact you may can salvage the block by putting a steel sleeve in the damaged cyl. I have saved several that way. one time I salvaged a 401 block that had a hole big enough that I could stick my thumb in and drove it till the wheels wernt as big around as a donut.
You have now joined the ranks of the afflicted... I'm in NE Seattle, maybe I'll see you around. If you see a Bamboo Cream(yellow) '65 Skylark GS on the road somewhere in town, that will be me!
Hey, Dan. I was gonna surprise you with my new Wilccat, if I can pull off the deal. I'll keep ya posted...
