I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most guys around here are going to recommend that you use a Buick 350 (NOT the same as a chevy 350, or a chevy 350 in a buick). I'm no expert on the buick 350, but I can tell you what I do know (much of which I've learned here) since nobody else has replied yet
There aren't a ton of parts available for the Buick 350, however you can get cams and intakes.
You probably have a chevy or an olds motor right now. The motor mounts and accesories won't work with the buick 350, but I believer mounts, etc from a 231 V-6 will. So if you can track down a v-6 g-body to pull parts from, I think you'll have almost a direct bolt-in.
Total swap price will depend on engine and parts availability in your area, but I don't think it would be too much different form a chevy swap.

Good luck and resist the dark side.

    thanx

I spoke to a guy today .. I have a stock engine right now.

He said to throw a chevy 350 in it .. No more no less...

It would prolly cost me around $3,000 (my guess) for all parts + labor. Hefty investment for a car that cost me the same....

Althou I would have a (new) car...

If anyone has some dvise on where to shop for a used 350...
    (brand new isnt neccesary).

honestly i would not put a chevy motor back in there. my .02 . You can shop with postons or TA and get everything you want for a buick 350 (buicks just run better i think).:bglasses:

If you don't want to spend too much money on it i would just work with what you got in there now BTW if where you live have emissions checks you will be limted at what you can do with it if not toss in a good cam, intake, carb but don't over do it here now and headers that would be a good start with the motor in it now.Now if you want better burnouts you need to put lower rear gears in your rear end as the ones in it now suck for that but first find out which motor you have in your car so you know if they can't tell you find some one who can.DM in Fla

    swap

Hey there crazddog. Keep in mind your trans when doing an engine swap. I believe your car would have a 200C lockup three speed which won't be happy with peeling out for too long. Consider swapping to a TH 350.
I would recommend a Buick 350 myself if your not concerned with the smog police. Thats what I have in my Regal. I have no timeslips to go by, but from messing around racing friends who do (Mustang fools), I'd say it would run mid to low 14's. Just an internally stock 72 motor with headers, Poston intake, TD carb spacer, Pertronix HEI, and a 750 Demon carb. I ya wanna go faster without an engine swap, DEFINITELY change rear gears. You probably have 2:73's. You could swap in a GN/T Type rear which has 3:42's. And an aftermarket exhaust/air filter.

    How about a 300 V8

Ever considered installing a '64-'67 300 V8? They have the same block configuration as a 231 V6, so the mounts would probably be the same. If you go with a '64 engine, you have a nice lightweight piece that's easy to tune and easy to keep cool. If you go with a '65-'67 engine, you can slap on a stock cast iron 4V manifold, mild cam, dual exhausts, small Edelbrock/Carter card and away you go. It'll bolt up to a BOP TH-350 trans. Looks like an easy swap to me.

Honestly, while this is a BUICK site... it might be easier to (gasp) swap in a small block Olds. Everything you currently have should bolt right up to it, since it sounds like you already have an Olds 307.

My general recommendation is Buick 350 to replace Buick V6s and and Olds 350/403 to replace 307s. Assuming one doesn't want a big block.

Better than an SBC, so don't worry.

    I'd go 350.... chevy...

    1) It already has a chevy motor from the factory, so who really cares about brand loyalty there....

    2) Now, yes the buick motor is a better motor, but parts availability/cost makes the chevy the best choice for someone on a budjet, or that wants a crazy built motor.

what ever you go with good luck!

    That's a negatory--unless you know something I don't (entirely possible)

Unless it's a canadian Buick, it should have a 307 Vin "Y" Oldsmobile Motor in it, as that was the only option aside from the 3.8L V6 (which was available turbo or non).

I'm not to familiar with those cars, I just assumed it would be a 305... either way, it's not a buick motor.....

I'm not sure how different the 310 and 212 are, but the 212 is great. With the current stock converter and 2.56 gears she still pulls out quick, also probally low 9's for compression. Make sure you call up TA and ask them to reccomend how much you should advance the cam, it could make a big difference, and is a bit of a pain to change after the motor is together.
I had to tear down my motor because of oil problems, the pickup was all messed up. So now I'm rebuilding it with 10.2:1 pistons, and putting 3.08 posi in back, and probally a mild converter. Can't wait to see what it will do when it's done.
