    Hello,
Ive was woundering what a collapsed lhydraulic ifter is? Whats are some common causes? What can be done to keep it from happening? Heres my car. Just rebuilt the motor with all new and matched parts from Comp cams cam is .432 intake and .453 exhaust with 111 lobe seperation.). I started it and broke it in at 2000 rpm for the 30 minutes like the cam card said. I have good oil pressure 30 at idle and about 65 at runnung speeds. The car has been sitting a while since rebuilt. It started it to tune it up a bent a pushrod. I didi not rev it higher than 4000rpm (tell tale tach) and it bent a pushrod. No big deal so I installed a new one, same thing. I took the intake off and sure enough, a collapsed lifter. #1 intake side. Im going to install a new one this weekend. Just curious to what happened? Thanks! drew.:Do No:

Where did you get the lifters and when?

There have been many problems with cheap, imported Buick lifters. Sorry to say, but all lifters are NOT equal.:Smarty:

If you do a search, you should have no problem reading the cases.

Maybe your valve springs are binding up.......that's called coil bind. There could be too many shims under them. :bglasses:

Use adjustable pushrods to make the valvetrain adjustable. Lifter preload is very important.

The problem with that is if the max. stroke of of the valve is less than the lift, the pushrod will still bend even if it's adjustable.:bglasses:

I agree, but you should have some way of adjusting the valvetrain on a rebuilt engine. It's no longer stock. I have a friend with a hot 72 Stage1(Tufbuick on this BB) whose engine had a nasty habit of putting pushrods right through the rocker. Replaced 2 rocker arms and pushrods before we fixed the problem with adjustables. His preload was all wrong. A rebuilt engine is no longer stock, you have to check preload.

I don't know what causes it, but I hear you can fix it with this:

Use too many of them and you will be able to lift her with it.

On the news the other day i heard that one other brand caused some patients in the trials to get "pushrods" that wouldn't go down and they had to go to the emergency room.

Imagine having to explain that one to the nurse on duty!:Brow:
