My ultimate goal to is to get my Electra (76 Limited, 4 door, HT) to run mid 14s. I am rebuilding my motor, and I am aiming for about 450+hp/500+tq. With an estimated curb weight of about 4700lb, and stock gearing (I dont know what the stock ratio is o No: ), what horsepower amount will be necessary to make this car run mid 14s? Thank you for any insight/info. Langston
I used this calculator: http://javascript.internet.com/calculators/horsepower.html The repsonse was: Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile Method Your electra 225 weighs about 4700 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 14.5 seconds. That means that you've got about 304.71 HP at the wheels, and about 396.12 HP at the flywheel. There are other such on-line calculators -- they may come up with different numbers Craig
There are two basic "free" calculators that you find around the net. I think you will find that the high numbers are the flywheel HP numbers, and the lower numbers are the real wheel HP numbers. So take your pick, but it sounds like your goal of 450 HP should get you where you want. I have desktop dyno and dragstrip, if you can give me all the info you can on the car, tire size, gear ratio, etc. I can run a simulation for you and let you know.
Thanks guys! Phillip, I havent the slightest idea of the gear ratio that the car came with. I will try to find out that information, and get back to you. Thanks! Langston
