1972 skylark gs 350 4 barrel automatic what is the tranny i most likely have and is it most likely geared really low the car just seems tired i know its old and has 172k miles but it just seems slow it redlined at 105 on a not too bad hill... where my '90 camaro will easily churn out 115 (it aint a fast camaro either bone stock haggered 305) out here in hawaii and runs 17's at our strip seems alot low too me... maybe i just had higher expectations ? or is it that haggered ndont get me wrong i love my 7 deuce just needs to be a qwicker 7 deuce :3gears:

That's most likely the venerable TH350. Good transmission when it shifts crisply and has a converter properly matched to your driveline.

I agree, TH350. I had a TH350 in my '72 GS350, but mine topped out well over the limits of the speedometer and ran high 13s in the quarter with a bone stock motor/trans/gears.

What exactly is this 'redline' you speak of? You could have two things working against you on an old automobile. Your valvetrain may be really tired and your transmission may be slipping as well.

If the motor or trans or for that matter motor and trans have never been rebuilt, then thats most likely the problem. My car's engine and trans. has never been rebuilt and it's clocking 103 k miles and it's getting tired and is starting to have it's corks and probs.
