What to use to flush a posi?

Well one one my friends was using my table grinder on a metal bracket with my open posi unit for my 67 Riv conveniently lying 4 feet away. Now I'm not entirely certain if a lot or any metal shavings got into the posi, etc. but I think perhaps a flush might be in order. What do you all suggest I use to flush it, and maybe some suggestions for what oil I should use also. The AC Delco GM posi lube additive was already suggested to me, but is there a good oil I should add it to? Thanks

I guess you could just spray some brake cleaner in there. I use Valvoline 80W/90 with a bottle of Posi additive. Eaton recommends Dino Gear oil in their Posi units.

In the case of a posi differential still in the car with suspect diff lube, the 66 service manual recommends motor oil flush 2 times with rear wheels off ground running rearend at 30mph for 2min each time.

in the case of suspected contamination by metal chips, you could get the obvious offenders with visual cleaning, rags, and light-weight oil. Next fill the diff with motor oil and spin it a minute at low speed with electric motor. check for chips, repeat. check for any nasties. cover, and keep friends with grinders away from prized posi.

    Kerosene works very well. Jim
