i have a 1973 riviera with an edelbrock performer intake,k&n air filter with an extreme flow top, and i am curently installing TA performances shorty headers(which everone i talk to in helena says is a terrible idea  ) so now im wondering what would be the next mods to do to wake up this old girl up your help would be greatly appriciated thanks Curtis helena montana 1979 lesabre 1974 electra 1973 riv(my baby) :3gears:
You would be wise to richen the carb a bit. With the additional airflow you're combo is probably running lean. And I would buy an oil pressure gauge to keep tabs on the engine's oil pressure. Just my 2 cents. LOL. :TU:
sorry im kinda new to all of this stuff. ive had my car for 5 years but have only recently started to try add some power and what not. so how would i go about richening the carb up?
new jets and metering rods inside the quadrajet carburetor....you must take the carb apart to get to them. www.carbsunlimited.com sells jets & rods. Or just send your carb to John Osborne, and send your distributor to Ignition man Dave (www.davessmallbodyheis.com).
Simon you should find out what gear is in the rear. I will guess that the single biggest improvement in waking the ole girl up will be a change to low to mid 3 series gears.
More than likely a 2.73 Good luck finding gears for that puppy! The infamous 9 3/8 rear is under the Riv. Although they're out there, be prepared to search and have your wallet ready.
The shorty headers worked well on my GS! A good gain in power from just that one mod. Don't listen to all those nay say'ers. I heard the same stuff, but was pleased with them. Long tubes would have gained a little more, but I hate them dragging all the time. I like long tubes for mainly racing and not driving.
A good flowing exhaust system and a distributor advance curve kit will get you some god power. Nothing wrong with using the shorty headers. Jim Burek
