I'm looking at unloading my 72 Skylark convertible. After a three year project upgrading tons of stuff, I blew the engine and don't have the emotional energy to drop another $3500 into an engine and do it all over again. Anyway, I may have a guy who's willing to give me trade in value on the car toward something else, but I'm not sure what to ask him for it. It's a 72 convertible, setup for a 455 and th350 or 2004r. 3.42 posi, 2 1/2 dual exhaust, TA headers, front discs, new core support, new engine harnesses, all new break lines and master cylinder / wheel cylinders and 14" painted rally wheels. It also has a good deal of rust in the trunk (and possibly a few small holes) and steel plate repaired floor rust. The top is in decent shape but has a small tear just in front of the back window on the driver side. I'd love to hear any input on what you think I should ask the guy for it... Thanks all
Sure, should ahve thought of that! Here are some when I was pulling the engine: http://picasaweb.google.com/MickBurkellc/2006_11_26 here are some from the May Day parade: http://picasaweb.google.com/MickBurkellc/2005_06_14 Thanks for any input! Mick
Hi Mick...I have followed your tribulations and I can sympathize. I have thought so many time about getting rid of my car, but I have not yet and am generally happy about that (until the next thing goes wrong!) I just wanted to say that I am sorry that you are considering letting it go.
Well - I'll take a shot at this...if the car was nice and running, I would estimate it at about $10,000. You say it is set up for a 350 or 200R4, so I assume the trans is gone. It looks like you pulled it with the engine. I'd deduct $800 for the engine trans (running eng/trans combo go for $500 to 1000). The biggest hit is the rust: I'd deduct $3000 for floors and $1000 for the trunk. The rest of the car looks ok. The fact that its a rolling shell with no engine (PIA to move) is likely a hit of about $500. So I'm at $4700. Of course, its all in the eye of the beholder, so thats +/- $1000! my 2 cents. - Bill
Thanks guys. And thanks for chiming in Paul, your car looks GREAT! I figured I'd hear from you... At this point i think it's just too much for me, after tossing a lot of cash into it and ending up with a brick, that I have to waste my garage year round to store, I figure I'm better off just getting something that I can drive year round and still have some fun in the summer. I'm thinking about a soft top (/ hard top) Jeep Wrangler, so i can have the daily driver and the drop top when I want it. Won't smoke any Chevy's with it, but that's OK...
Well its a done deal. Got the Jeep this afternoon, so I'll be selling the Buick asap. If anyone is interested in it as described, let me know...
Mick - just curious - what are you asking? I also recommend you put a thread in the "cars for sale" section. - Bill
