What the heck is this thing?

    I know it's a car, and I know it's a 340, but what the heck is the giant thing on the front of the engine? Really old compressor for the a/c? Old timey smog pump?

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

    Dodge used those A/C compressors up until the late 70's. They look great set off against the smooshed looking alternator, right? :TU:

    I have to say... GM was ahead of the game in styling and enginuity back in the day. Mopars just were not as refined looking. As is the case of the attached pictures.

    that looks like my friend motor.

    I took that picture at a show a few years ago. Not sure where it was.
    That would be neat if I could come and visit sometime.

    Imagine how much HP that thing drags, AND how much it weighs!

    Ford had a fairly archaic AC compressor as well.

    That AC compressor is AWFUL!!! :shock: :confused: :puzzled:
