While removing the front bearing dust cap, I found this thing inside. The other side didn't have one so, I left it out when I put them back together. Anyone know what it is and what it does???
It's a static suppressor for the radio. :Smarty: Put it back in unless you like the sounds of noise coming from your speakers. :TU:
That's a static frapizoid. Try asking for that at Auto Zone! How 'bout a motorfretzel on a local johnson rod?
It's what Janet Jackson was wearing during the superbowl. Put it on eBay if you want to get rich quick! p
VERY FUNNY YOU GUYS!! :beer Nick, If you'd like me to, I can scan the page out of a 66 GM assembly manual that shows the thing. There's even a part number assigned to it. :TU:
Wow, very cool. Too bad my 63 didn't come with a radio or even an antenna. I will keep it though so when I do, I'll have one of those staic frapizoid Janet niple thingy's. :beer
BTW. Should I need one on both sides? I mean, in case my costume malfunctions on both instead of just one?
IUD.... doctors found out years ago that those things werent a very good form of birth control.:eek2:
Clearly a very, very small alien spacecraft became disoriented and lodged itself in your Buick. Ask them is they have Elvis...
Maybe it's the sculpture they used to model the crown for this picture: Either that, or these guys work for your mechanic:  Seriously though, I have no idea what that thing is. - Freed
It really is a static suppressor (even though there are some GREAT answers already) You need one in both caps, and be VERY careful when you put the cotter pin in, as they have a tendency to destroy the suppressor if you let the end hang out too far! They used to be necessary, but with the later FM radios with all the built in suppressors, they might not be necessary. :beer :beer
:Brow: Most of you guys thought that I was kidding... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&category=38655&sspagename=STRK:MEBWA:IT&rd=1
Being a younger electronics and audio kind of guy, I have never seen these before. Anyone know how these things work? Strangest thing I've ever seen, and I just can't figure it out.
I think it just suppresses static by providing a constant ground to whatever is on the other side of it. Anytime two metal parts are not connected, you have a chance of creating static electricity, which makes a popping sound on AM radios.
