Got the engine ready to install but the stock starter won't fit with the girdle. ou: What are you guys with girdled engines running for a starter and are there any modifications required?o No:
I have a stock starter on mine but I don't remember if I had to cut on the girdle or not ( I don't think I did), however I did have to roll the lip of the oil pan gasket surface away from the starter. It's not the best way to do it because the lip is layed over on the oil pan stud.
I have a CSI starter.....it's just about 10 years old and has NEVER given me a problem. Never had to shim it,And it fits well,Girdle and all. I highly recommend them.
Thanks Alan and Gary. I just came from a car show where 2 club members told me that they didn't have any problems fitting their starters on their girdled motors. I know that there are 2 "generations" of TA girdle. Could yours be the earlier ones and mine be later?
I think I had to do some minor grinding to get my starter to fit. i bought the girdle somewhere around '98-'99
Thanks Adam. Got the problem solved. We didn't get the stock starter to work but we were able to modify and re-clock a chevy powermaster starter to work. Going racin soon!
