There is a 67 Caddy in the local yard with the 429" engine and SP 400 tranny. What SP specific parts would I want to pull out to save? It's a shame that Caddy had such a wierd bellhousing pattern......very limited options. Wonder how hard it would be to cut the bell off and bolt up a JW Ultrabell?
You'll need: Torque converter Front pump w/solenoid Input shaft Two-prong electrical connector at side of trans case Internal wiring from the connector to the solenoids There's also a restriction orifice required that can be fashioned from a plug, you'll have to install it into a passage on the case where the pump bolts up (I think there are details in the links below). http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?p=514982 http://buickperformance.com/switchpitch.htm http://www.bdub.net/tranny/index.html That should do it! Dont forget activation switch at carb base. You need the device to actuate high/low pitch of convertor
Direct clutch drum While you're in there you should grab the sprag clutch drum and direct clutch drum. For that matter I'd bring the whole thing home. Lots of good parts inside.
I'll take a look Robert. Doors were still there as of today. I'll probably wait until trannies are on special and just get the whole thing. Did they have a similar output shaft as the 400 or were they weird on the backend too? Thanks guys! :bglasses:
hey scott, could you count the number of bolts holding on each valve cover? i'm compiling a visual id guide and # of valve cover bolts seems to be a great way to tell a lot of GM motors apart.
I'll try to remember to check that out. A friend of mine bought the valve covers off that engine......had the nice Cadillac embossed script on top. He's trying to collect older valve covers that have a little style to them, for his garage walls.
