I'm currently running 7/16 x 3 wheel studs in my full bodied 70 GS Car weighs 4050 with me in it and has gone 10.80's with 1.5's 60'. I had the rear wheels off recently to check rear brakes and noticed that the studs appear to be flexed or bent due to launching. It looks like they have been twisted or rotated in the direction of rotation that would be incurred when launching . Has anyone ever experienced this and what is your recommendation. I was looking at drilling out the axle flanges and installing 5/8 wheel studs. I dont want to encounter a failure of the wheel studs and would like to correct the issue before it causes another one. Thanks in Advance

Ok first question is are you running stock axles or aftermarket axles? If stock and you keep running this car at the track you need to upgrade your axles ASAP and get the 1/2 x 20 studs.

If you already have aftermarket axle then you can drill them out but might need to use carbide tip as some of these axles use a much better mix of metals and hardening process.
Lastly - Check your drums to see how the drums fit the studs. IF they are a loose fit and slide forward and backwards hitting the stud that will damage your studs prematurely also.

    Good luck, Jim Mitschke
