Hey Guys, A friend of mine has a 67 Skylark with a healthy 455(575 to 600 HP)a 4000 stall conv. Frist he can get a 28" tire under the car,he does have a 27" Slick. So we were thinking possibly the 28" with a 373 gear. What do you think. :Do No:

    Tire Size!

That sounds about right. I use a 31" tire with a 4.10 gear in my 67 but it has been "trimmed" a little. That puts me through the finishline at about 6400 @ 128mph. So without doing the math I would guess a 28" tire would need about 3.73's. The only difference, I don't make 600hp.

Sorry Engie, I couldn't resist!
There are some tire size/rpm calculators on the web. Here's one:
    http://www.rocky-road.com/calculator.html
Or if you go to www.downloads.com there's a program called Virtual Engine calculator, which includes HPWeight calculators...

Hope you are coming to Yardleys picnic next week!

I'm really not sure of the HP. It has gone a best of 10.31 @ 129.

Wow!...using the 'Virtual Engine' calculator, that puts the power at 705 hp if the weight is 3500 lbs.

The same calculator puts my Nailhead-powered '66 at 378 hp using 3800 lbs for a 102 mph trap speed.....

It would be interesting to see how other cars compare, using this same program...

    No Way!

NO way I'm making that much power. First the car weights 3300# and I really don't feel it is making over 560hp at best. We did make 650hp on the dyno with a simlar engine but it had more cam and better heads, so I feel the 560-70 range was about it. I think 700 hp will put me in the 9's.

I ran a 9x28x15 on an 8in wheel with 5in backspace on my 67. The tires cleared fine with a small lift from air bags. 9:1 455 ran a best of 10.92 goin through at 6000 with a 3.73 gear. Converter wasn't quite as loose though.
