What Should I Do With This Block

Guy's I just got this 76-455 engine. When I pulled the carb it was full of water. Now that it has dried out, 6 of the cylinders just have surface rust, the other 2 have deep pits. If I had to guess it would take about .060 to clean up the bad two.

Should I just send this to the scrap yard, or is there any value in keeping it.

BTW the engine was free, but I still need a good one if anyone knows where to get one.

.060 over block would be ok,it might run a little hot, would be a good for racing, little more power and the 76 block has better oiling and about 10 lbs more metal (STRONGER BLOCK)

, but if you want a good streetable block that might need only .020 - .030 over then you would be able to rebore it agine down the road or you might not even have to bore out, look for a 70-72, those heads on that 76 are junk(very low comp) JIM at P.A.E. in Elpaso TX might have core?dont know how close you are?

Why not sleeve the two worst cylinders? Is the Buick block so thin you'd lose strength?

My Olds 455 has a sleeved cylinder. No problems if it's done right...and it isn't high-tech.

Anyone know how much it should cost to sleeve a cylinder. It might be worth doing, since this block hasn't been bored yet.

$100 per hole, give or take a little. I'd go with the 2 sleeves myself.

Tie a Chain to it and use it for a boat anchor. I wonder how big of a boat it could anchor?
