Like it says what's the HP in your 455 ? Anybody dyno there motor ? I just curious about it because we are having one rebuilt for a customer and left it up to the rebuilder to get the most out of it on pump gas and were just looking for a reference point.

Oh yeah we have Stage 2 heads for it .

Were curious to see what you's guy's have and what this builders gets. He promised a buddy of ours 425 HP out of a small block chevy and when he was done he got him 519 HP. My buddy was thrilled. Price tag was $8000 big ones.

    Let me know .

    hey Jarrod-

One place to look is the Trishield Perf site. Jim W. has each of his engine combos itemized with the parts that go into it and the dyno results. Check it out.

Also, has this builder done Buicks before? Or is he more of a Chevy guy? I'm assuming you already know this, but the clearances on the Buicks are much tighter than what a Chevy builder is used to. There's been quite a few horror stories on here of guys that had to build motors twice to get it right. If Yardley reads this, I'm sure he'll chime in.

    Good Luck.

Actually he doesn't like CHEVY'S he's more of a MOPAR man. The one thing he has said is that he is rather impressed with the Buick motor. He just did over a 426- Hemi for a friend of mine and he told him that his Hemi won't beat the Buick.
    My buddies kinda pissed now.

must be the heads/intake... :Brow: (shameless plug)

For what your building, done right, for a nice max effort streetable motor, on pump gas, running the power brakes, you should be looking for 585-610 on the Torque and HP. Not a tremendously difficult set of numbers to obtain.

Thanks guy's and Jim W i checked out your websie and was rather impressed. I was wondering what's the timeframe for a motor ? I'm looking for one that looks bone stock and reeks of power and torque (like you mentioned) for my 70 wildcat.

    My 464

I bought my 464 shortblock already assembled. The guy I bought it from was running a set of stage 2 iron heads, a single plane intake (????) and a Holly dominator on it and he tolds me that it was close to 650.

I'll be running stage 1 alum heads from Jim, a performer intake and a 1000 TQ. I guessing I'll have about 600 out of it.

Jim Wiese did my 462. 511/562 hp/tq and is totally streetable using my a/c and other options with a 2800 stall converter. Has a good sounding idle to it, but is so well tuned it can be started cold, even in 45 degree weather, and put into gear and roll on down the road with no sputter or bog at all. And I am running a Holley 950hp that of course does not even have a choke tower. He will take care of you and make you happy! My 73 year old mom could drive this car without a problem.

    Jarrod,

I mean no disrespect. I certainly won't say he can't get the same #s as JW with a comprable combo, as others have and they are duplicatable #s. But they are not eazy to get or more importantly to keep together even for a vetran performance motor builder. Jim has been researching and comparing notes if you will of other hi po BBB builders for years. These are highly perfected combos with hours of dyno and miles of street time as is his machine work and assembly.

If he has not had some successful history of doing these types of build ups with the BBB I would tend to wonder if he is overly confident or full of shat. I am not trying to diswade you from having him build your engine. Just don't buy a pig in a polk as the hog farmer would say. Best of luck and enjoy your BBB as it truely is a cool motor.

fyi a few other well respected performance Buick builders might include PAE, Earicks Racing, TA Performance, Automotive Machine & Performance. I think they are all listed in the Buick Parts Directory.

PS I just saw you have 800 posts so you probably already know all this stuff.

No sweat Vern your point view is well taken.
I already spoke to this guy about longevity and performance. He is going to stand by his engine 100% with no back peddling so i feel he will do a good job but i think he lacks the experience in the BBB area so like i stated before we'll see !!!! he may suprise the sh*@ out of everybody.
