:3gears: im wondering what would be a good cam for my motor i have a edelbrock performer intake ta shorty headers msd 6 al box in the mail along with dist. am currently looking for a sp trans also looking to either have the heads reworked or buy new ones oh ya its a 73 riv with only 52000 miles thanks for your help curtis :3gears:
I just went through this decision with my motor. It looks simular with around 9:1 compression. I wanted good idle and went with the TA 212. This is a good cam for the lower rpm range.
If you are unsure what you want in a camshaft.....the best thing to do is call several vendors and talk to them about your set-up and your desired results. There is no ONE "good cam" for your motor. :error: Cam selection is dependant on many different variables. :Smarty: And is very difficult/slow to do ON-LINE. A couple minutes on the phone will get you a good recommendation. Try: TA Performance, Tri-Shield Performance, PAE Enterprises or Poston Enterprises. If you are unfamiliar with these companies, do a search on this Bulletin Board and you will find the information you need. :TU: Good Luck.
Cheapest performance is derived from recurving the dist. The most power gain will come from going to the new TA alumunum heads. JW estimates 50-60 hp out of the box and more with porting. Do not make the mistake of going to too much cam. It will put the power ban higher where you are not as likely to use it on the street. Going to the new heads will give you margin to run more timing or perhaps a lesser grade of gas.
