I was wondering if I built my 66 Skylark to run in the stock drag classes what motor I would be able to use. Is it the actual stock motor to the car? Or can you use any 1 available for that year? Just curious. I'm still thinking about what I'm going to do with the car. Thanks, Dan :3gears:
Depends what you mean by "stock drag class" If you mean NHRA Stock Eliminator, I believe it is the correct casting number block for that year. If you mean the Pure Stock Drags and or FAST, they each have their own rules. If you are talking about taking your Skylark and cloning it to a GS with a 401, I believe that would be prefectly legal. Just has to be a 66 401. You cannot use a dual quad set up on that motor in any of the above classes.
Ok, so for stock drag classes I can use a 401. But what tranny can I use behind it. Thanks, Dan :3gears:
Dan Page down to The "Those Other Guys" forum and post in "The 'Other' Bench." I'm sure you can get some more accurate answers there.
According to the rule book....any GM trans with the same number of forward gears. If you had a 3 speed suto, you can run a T400, T350, T200. Check the rule book or your division office.
If that's how it works you're stuck with a 2-speed ST-300. Not a bad trans, has a 400 input shaft and accepts switch-pitch 400 converters. I have a rebuilt one here left over from my '66 GS I'll sell if you need it.
