The 40H134714 looks to be the serial number. 4=Buick, 0=1970, H=Flint, 134714 should be the last 6 digits of your VIN if that is the original motor.

Sorry about the intake, I don't have those numbers at my fingertips...

Not the original motor. It is a 455, I bought from a junkyard do not know what it came out of. Am trying to find out what year it is. The numbers came from between the 1 and 3 spark plugs.

    :bglasses:

If you look between the rear plugs, you should see a two letter code with three digits near. That will tell you the HP. :Smarty:

Yes the intake number is for a 1970 so the 0 before the H probably means a 70.

If it is a 455, that number should be found on the top of the bell housing, 12 o clock positition. Under the 455 number you'll find the block casting number, please post this on the board.

For a 1970 455 it should read: 1231738, but for some 1971 455 engines this number was also used.
Best thing is to look at the two letter engine code:
    If it starts with a S, it's 1970.
    If it starts with a T, it's 1971.

1231718 is the intake number for a 1970 455 CI engine.

SF engine code is for a 370 HP 455 with 10.5:1 compression ratio.
