    I have purchased an SF code 455 for later use. The assembly plant code is C. I know this is Southgate, CA. What I don't know is what models of Buick were built there in 1970. I am thinking that ALL B-body cars were built there without regard to what model; i.e. LeSabre, Electra, Estate Wagon, etc.

    regards,

    Just 2 cents worth of info:

    First you can’t go by the wiki info.

    Second, Estate Wagons have always been “B” bodies.

    1970
    Series 6000 = B body
    36 = 2 seat wagon = 6036
    46 = 3 seat wagon = 6046

    1971-72
    Series 6000 = B body
    35 = 2 seat wagon = 6035
    45 = 3 seat wagon = 6045

    1973-76
    B body wagons were id’d with the “R”
    R = Trim
    BR35 = 2seat wagon
    BR45 = 3 seat wagon

    1977-79
    BR35 = 2 seat wagon

    In the 80’s with the transition to front wheel drive the Estate Wagon remained a “B” body but an option was added.
    BR35 = Estate Wagon
    BR35 w/WB5 option = Electra Estate Wagon
    Then the “R” was replaced in the VIN with a “V” = RWD

    David, Thanks for the info on the wagons but my main question was what models of Buicks were built in the Southgate plant in 1970. The Estate was just an example.

    Yes sir I understood the question.

    My post was in reference to the deleted 2nd post.

    Southgate was a B.O.P. assembly plant.

    The only ’70 Buicks I’ve seen (VIN) out of Southgate were

    Electras and Estate Wagons.

    So the Electra or Estate Wagon. That would imply both B and C bodies then. I have all the numbers and codes off the engine. I have disassembled it and will be using it as a donor for other engine projects. My enquiring mind wanted to narrow down the model(s) of car this engine might have been in new. The engine has every indication of being very low mileage and well taken car of until it was removed from the car. Then it simply got lucky for however many years and owners it passed thru. When the oil is so old it's grey on all the oiled surfaces of the block, heads and oiling system it has sat a long time.

    I'll be inspecting and measuring as I get time. I suspect this engine to have standard bores, bearings, rings and clearances. I'd be surprised if the car it came out of had more than 60K on it.
