I have this taillight section from a 67 Electra that I plan on hanging on the wall. I want to hook it up to AC, so what kind of inverter should I get for it? There's like 8 small bulbs that needs to be fed, and on ebay you can find cheap inverters for like $5, could that be sufficient?
I would be afraid of those cheapies on E-bay . Probaly best bet would be to go to local electronics supply store and ask them . Be sure and take example of bulbs you are going to power so they can figure load and select proper inverters .
You don't need an inverter( low voltage to higher voltage ) you need a 12 volt direct current (DC ) power supply. if you are going to run all 8 bulbs at once you need to pull one ( or the biggest if they're different sizes ) and find the wattage stamped on the side of the bulb near the glass. add all 8 up, and guessing that each one is 15 watts, 8x15 = 120. Ohms law says Volts x Amps = Watts, so you have 12 volts, 120 watts = 10 amps ( this is gonna be different depending on what you really have, but not too much ) so get yourself a ~12 amp power supply-don't go small- and you're all good. Try allelectronics.com they should have something for ya- and don't forget to fuse it!!:TU: Robert
