Hi I found pictures of this car on the web.http://www.gaspumpclassics.com/forsale/1976_Buick_Electra_Limited_Coupe_Mariposa_California_2029.html And I wonder about, is this a original Buick or is it customized? The grill looks like aftermarket, but what about the vinyl roof with the special window and the opera light. Is it anybody who knows?
I think it looks great, looks like its professional done. Its only the grill thats look a little bit overkill.
That's sort of a Cadillac style grille....but a least they managed to refrain themselves from putting on 20" rims!
those grilles look good on the cadillacs, the 75 and 76 grilles that were on both the deville and the fleetwood are ugly. I think the 76 electra grille is fine, I don't care for the one on this electra.
You have to give this one honorable mention ---Rare N69 option. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=7680&highlight=n69
I used to see quite a few Electra coupes done like that one when I lived in Los Angeles. There should be some fake wires trims added to those wheels -- they were called 'wire baskets'. They were dealer add ons. Same goes for the fake Rolls Royce grille. Buick did something unusual with their color availability in 76 by eliminating restrictions on colors. So the wild colors usually only available on the small cars were then available for all the Buicks. There is a lime green that is very wild. So the wild orange color is original. Buick also offered a padded vinyl top with a really small side window, but the one on that car is aftermarket. There was a white leather interior with a diamond pattern that usually was ordered in combination with the other pimp stuff.
IMO the 74-76 Electra's (especially the 76 with the Park Ave option) along with the 74-76 98's and Caddy's were the best looking cars of all times. I was in the 20's when these were on the street and couldn't afford it then. Everytime I got a job and made enough to buy what I wanted- they would downsize em (downsized the buick in 77 and when I wanted a Caddy they got rid of the 2 door Coupe Deville) and I lost interest in them. IMO even the new Caddy except for athe XLR is kinda generic looking. A lot of these "custom cars" were around town in Harrisburg during the 70's, some driven by people who earned an honest income but most driven by people who had dubious professions :Brow:
Ya know, I already mentioned this to the wife :Brow: and did not get a favorable reply. I already am working on purchasing a 67 GS conv't (its pristine no pics yet, a southern car w/very low mileage and a 4spd to boot!!) and a 70 Challenger so I have to get my priorities right---P#ssed the wife off when she found out about the conv't but I am trying to use that as a trade for the Challenger which has a 440 in it!!! Anyway back to the main topic--I sure do like that car!! Rivman--they used to be called "love brokers" around here in the 70's if you had a Caddy, the poor dudes with the Buicks, Olds and Lincolns were called pimps!! I remember one guy that had a heavily padded vinyl top with a heart shape rear window on his Eldorado!!!! see ya later
