    Hi guys,

I have a 70 Wildcat "beast". Just wondering what you guys are using for exhaust set ups. I want that good deep sound but with the performance also!

Visit your local exhaust shop and have them custom bend you some duals with Magnaflow mufflers! Nice deep mellow sound without the loud drone that Flowmasters have! Better flow than most mufflers also!

Have em' on my 70' Skylark with the 350 and the 73' Electra with the 455, no resonators. Love that Magnaflow sound!

    i have a magnaflow...on my truck.

Idle is nice, you can hear it and other things at the same time.

Only loud when you want it to be, when youre really getting on it.

I agree also: I have Stainless Magnaflows on my 72 Electra with TA shorty headers, X Pipe and 2.5 exhaust. Nice low tone at Idle without being too noisy. Van

I have Magnaflows on the Riviera but I have to say that I like the tone off of the Dynomax's better. They had a restrained purposeful tone but I never really got to put them on the freeway for any distance because they hung so low under my '70 Riviera that they ripped open in 2 weeks due to dragging on everything from driveways to speedbumps. With a perimeter frame you'd have much more room under the car than I did with my X-frame. I think you'd be happy with either honestly. Dynomax's are cheaper because they are aluminized steel but they come in fewer sizes and could possibly drone on you.

I have new 2 1/4 duals with Turbo mufflers. Works great, very deep rumble, but not too loud. I had the same setup on my GS with the same kind of engine and it was much quieter. Neither me or my muffler guy knows why. I have a stock engine which shifts at 5000 or less, so I have no need for 2 1/2 inch exhaust, and it would reduce the low end torque anyway.

    This is a good thread.:)
How would your decisions change as performance increases?

For example, My '71 Riv has a rebuilt motor (stock).
I plan to upgrade to the shorty headers and exhaust system, but am unsure if bigger is better.:Do No:
Eventually I expect to change cam, then maybe the intake and dist. work ,then headwork (over the next year of so ).

    More knowledge please...:beer

If your 71 motor is stock, it's HP ansd torque ratings don't warrant anything bigger than 2 1/4 exhaust, even with headers. If you do some head work and do something that raises the CR, you mat want 2 1/2.

All these guys that run 3 inch have cams that raise their power band (I hope they do, anyway), but that is always at the expense of 0-1000 RPM torque...

For the street, with a big fat car, torque is king!

    Thanx Frank,

I of course want the car completelt streetable. BUT would like a cam a step or 2 above stock.
A nice lope at idle w/ a good exhaust system would let the ricers know something was up....:TU:

Stick with the 2.5" stuff, I lost so much low end torque with the 3" kit on my '70 Riv and it had a rather well built 468 in it.
