I am installing an Edelbrock carb, and I noticed this part, but I have no idea what it is. I don’t know if I need to plug the hose, or use it. Does it go on a vacuum port?

    Thanks

If your talking about the black plastic round thing it is a vacuum canister.

    Ah, I see

Now, I can’t find anywhere to attach the vacuum line on the carb. Should I just plug it?

You know when it is bad when air doesnt come out of upper vents in some cases.

It's a vacuum storage canister. It stores vacuum so that under hard acceleration or while going up long grades, your climate control system won't change modes.

You SURE it isn’t two cans of Copenhagen duct taped together for emergency break downs?

Must be "Wintergreen" blend for the consummate flavor experts... ws

Yes, if you don't connect your vacuum canister, your heater/defroster/recirculate controls will give you issues. Port for that usually is on the back of the carb.

Yes, but the new Edelbrock carb I installed dosent have a port for it in the back. It only had a spot for the brake booster line. Is there somewhere else I can put it?

Usually runs off manifold vacuum (if I remember right), so you might be able to put a T in your manifold vacuum line from the front.

The power brake booster should run off the back of the intake, not the carburetor. You can use a vacuum tee to distribute manifold vacuum to where you need it. Exactly WHICH Edelbrock carburetor did you buy? Should have just had a Quadrajet built.

Going through the brake malady on my '64 with an edelhoser today and checked the vacuum supply at idle AND half throttle at the booster and I can report FULL VACUUM at the carb base on the back. It is metered through the check valve that goes into the booster. Pulled the hose off and idle became a bit rough but manageable.

The vacuum supply should come off the manifold but the carb supply suffices just swell. ws

Better plug that threaded hole in the intake where the power brake fitting belongs.

or you can supply the vacume canister off the threded hole in the manifold.

Larry is right, booster goes to fitting in manifold.

Bill: must have taken some effort bending that booster line to get it into the carb. :)

Tis' plugged...actually that hole was used for the vacuum modulator, and now used that hole for my vacuum gage. The other adjacent hole was for the vacuum booster and is plugged.

Thats the OEM V6 vacuum line. I think it looks cool. Notice the PO's handiwork at the fitting end? Never heard of using two wrenches. ws

Always trouble with aftermarket carbs. You can employ T’s to get extra vacuum hookup.
