    Hi gang,

    Glad to see everyone back.

Here is a quick explaination of what happened in the last couple of days:

    First a little background:

As some of you may know, when we first started this site, we did it all in-house, with our own server, and the required local ISP handleing both the domain name, and the info.

This was just fine, when the size of the board was much smaller, and did not have up to 100 users attempting to access it at any one time during the day. But, due to explosive growth, and some shady pricing practices of the local ISP, we really got nailed on costs, so around July we moved the entire board to a new provider, RackNine, which has been an excellent thing for this board... great customer service, speed, and a cost that you just can't beat.

But, due to an oversight, the Domain name was still being pointed to our local ISP, and then re-pointed at the board's host, and this was fine, until sometime on Weds night, when the local guy's domain name server crashed. And we had no one to call, and no way to get ahold of this outfit.. their customer service for after hours stuff is non-existant..:af:

Bucy called them early on Thursday morning, and after consulting with me Weds night, we pulled the domain name from their servers and transfered it to the boards host's domain name server. The local guys killed the domain right away, and somewhere along the line, the right strings were not pulled to get the domain to associate with the board as quickly as we would have liked.

But the reason it was down for a day and a half, is because we knew that making this change would insure that this type of thing does not happen again.

Not unlike restoring a car.. you can take something that looks "decent" out of service for a while, rip it down, make it real ugly, and then when it comes back, it is better than new..

Same deal here, more or less.

    Thanks,

    JW

I thought you installed special Hemi detecting software and it was automatically blocking my access.
Or else you discovered my version of the secret Buick handshake was a forgery.:gt:

Oh.. we have "Hemi Detecting software" all right..

    But that's more of a virus thing... :eek2:

I missed the daily rants and raves of you SA and PS guys..

    Wouldn't be V-8 Buick.com without ya'..

.... and the daily travials of Casey and his fleet of "wayward" Dodge trucks, "CS" oldsmobiles, and the ocassional Big Chevy just for grins..

This free message board is one of those things that we seem to take for granted till it's gone.:Comp:

Thanks for giving us a place on the net Jim!:TU:
